Elon Musk's Neuralink Successfully Implants Brain Chip in Human for the First Time

ELON MUSK

Over the weekend, the brain-chip startup Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, marked a significant achievement as the first human patient received an implant and is reportedly recovering well. Elon Musk shared the news on social media, stating that the initial results indicate promising neuron spike detection. Neuron spikes are activities observed in neurons, which are cells that transmit information using electrical and chemical signals throughout the brain and body, according to the National Institute of Health.

Last year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Neuralink clearance to conduct its first human trial, a pivotal step in the company's mission to assist individuals dealing with paralysis and various neurological conditions. Neuralink received approval for recruitment in September, and the trial involves using a robot to surgically implant a brain-computer interface (BCI) in a brain region associated with the intention to move. The ultimate goal of this groundbreaking technology is to empower individuals to control a computer cursor or keyboard using their thoughts alone.
